Attached to an existing builder’s yard, the developer-contractor client sought to develop part of their land into additional office space for themselves, while also offering lettable mixed-use office space. Light industry will continue within the existing shed, which will be reclad to reduce its visual impact on the site.
After initial planning approval, we were brought on to enhance the previous design iteration and create a more visually interesting proposal to attract potential businesses. Our approach involved rationalising the elevations and structural grid to create regular square openings for each office space. This coupled with a larger atrium space in the centre of the office space offered very generous office spaces flooded with natural light.
External the rationalising of the grid into square openings offered a secondary columnar structure to appear in the facade, these will be clad in Corten steel. The coloration of the steel provides a striking contrast to the surrounding green landscape, while also complementing the industrial backdrop of the immediate site.
